Limerick Boat club  -Recreational Rowers- Phoenix regatta – Islandbridge Dublin

On a bright but blustery day at Islandbridge, Dublin,  Limerick Boat Club made their long awaited return to the water at Phoenix regatta.  As the distinctive black and white colours of LBC took to the water there was a realisation that we were truly back on the rowing scene.  Phoenix regatta is aimed at the recreational (Rec) rowing category which allows people get a taste of the sport of rowing.  We have been building our membership through a number of “Learn to row camps” and we are fortunate that a good percentage of the participants decided to join the club.  They have been a breath of fresh air for the club and their enthusiasm is so infectious it has rubbed off on the seasoned members.

Phoenix Regatta

Limerick Boat Club participated/competed last Saturday the 18th at the Phoenix at home regatta at Islandbridge, Dublin.

Phoenix Rowing Club is a new recreational club based at Islandbridge between Garda & Neptune club houses. They are seven years in existence & this is the seventh year of their regatta.

It was a 500 meter regatta rowing the opposite way to normal, ie. from Trinity to Garda.

There were eight clubs there on the day, Tralee, Graiguenamanagh, Athlone, Athy, to name but a few. Tribesmen & Carlow were late scratches.

Limerick Boat Club had twelve people attending on the day of the regatta, generally all new recreational rowers.

We had entries in women’s novice & club quads, mixed experienced quads & men’s experienced quads. It was our recreational rowers first regatta representing and first competitive outing for LBC. It was a great days rowing and everyone had three or four races on the day.

Congratulations to our Captain Hannah and Vice Captain Alan and to all the rowers.

Our next regatta is in Galway on Saturday 2nd of September on the stretch of water at Menlo castle.

It was a great day out in Dublin & Galway will be the same, so, bring the family and enjoy.

It would be great to see as many people as possible involved again – even if you can only give very limited time or feel like your experience is limited, give us a shout, every little helps! We are down every weekend and most evenings.

Looking forward to seeing you in the near future.

PS. Love the new Kit

Tony’s 80th Birthday

Limerick Boat Club’s super coach Tony Tyne turned 80 this weekend. We celebrated his birthday at Shannon Rowing Club, kitted out in black and white.

A wonderful night was had by all as we spent the night with great food and drink and amazing company.

A special thanks to Tony’s wife Bernie and their family for organising and putting on such a special night. Especially Your Future Life…

We are all looking forward to many more years of Tony’s continued coaching on the river Shannon with Limerick Boat Club.
